Escape Into ‘The Author Immortal’ in October

Fantasy lovers, take note, The Author Immortal is coming this October, and we’re very curious about this one.

The Author Immortal #1
Publisher: Image Comics
Writer: Frank J. Barbiere
Artist: Morgan Beem
Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
Release date: October 1, 2025

The new ongoing comic is written by Frank J. Barbiere (Five GhostsViolent Love) with watercolor art by Morgan Beem (Swamp Thing: Twin BranchesYou Belong Here). The story follows Hector Ramirez, a failed writer who gets a second chance at success when he’s hired to help reboot the fantasy book series that defined his childhood. But things take a surreal turn when the original author disappears into the world he created. Hector finds himself drawn into that same realm: a living, breathing storyworld where imagination rules…

It’s a classic portal fantasy setup, but with a metafictional twist and a grown-up perspective. The idea of someone literally stepping into the fiction that shaped them opens up a lot of possibilities. We’re especially excited that Author Immortal is an ongoing series. So many fantasy books end up being just a one-shot or mini, but this one promises a longer journey. The premise speaks to the book-loving kids we used to be, while also exploring what it means to rediscover imagination as an adult.

We’re not familiar with the creative team yet, which actually adds to the excitement. The art already looks like something different from the usual, soft and strange in a way that fits a fantasy book perfectly, from what we saw from the preview pages. We’re ready to be surprised by this one. It feels like a series that could really pull us in.

We’ll definitely be there for issue one on October 1st!
