About Comics Warlocks
We read a lot of comics, probably too many, and this is where we talk about them the way we actually think about them: what they are doing, what they are trying, and why they stuck with us.
Comics Warlocks is built for readers who follow the stack, chase the deep cuts, overthink a page, and still want to talk about the issue after it is closed.
We’re Patrick and Kevin, the two voices behind Comics Warlocks.
We met in Japan in 2018 after both living in different countries and carrying very different pop culture histories with us. Patrick grew up in Brazil loving X-Men, while Kevin, from France, came into comics through cartoons, superheroes, and the characters that made those stories feel bigger than the screen. Years later, comics became one of the things we kept coming back to, talking about, arguing over, recommending, and overthinking.
Comics Warlocks started because we needed more space for those conversations.
Social media is great for quick reactions, but sometimes a comic deserves more than a caption. Sometimes we want to talk about the pacing, the art, the character work, the themes, the choices that worked, and the ones that did not. Sometimes we want to sit with an issue for a bit and figure out why it stayed with us.
We review comics as fans first, but not casually. We both have backgrounds in communication, so storytelling, tone, structure, audience, and visual language are things we naturally pay attention to. Our reviews are personal, honest, and curious. We are not here just to decide whether something is “good” or “bad.” We are here to talk about what a comic is trying to do, how it lands, and who it might matter to.
We also think it matters to have queer voices talking about comics. Comics have always been full of outsiders, chosen families, secret identities, transformations, impossible worlds, and characters trying to become more fully themselves. That is part of why we love them, and part of why we want this space to exist.
Here, you’ll find comic reviews, news, pull list picks, reading guides, hauls, character spotlights, and thoughts on everything from Marvel and DC to indie comics, horror, fantasy, queer stories, and books that deserve more attention. We love the big names, but we also care about the smaller titles, new creators, and overlooked issues that might not get enough space elsewhere.
Comics Warlocks is our corner of the long box: a place for honest opinions, obsessive notes, and conversations with readers and creators who care about comics as much as we do.
