Y’all better pour yourself a tall glass of sweet tea and settle in, ‘cause today we’re talkin’ about Rogue: The Savage Land (and listen, if you ain’t readin’ this in Rogue’s thick Southern accent? You’re doin’ it all wrong, bless your heart.)

Rogue: The Savage Land

Now, Rogue’s been my favorite mutant since forever and I always read her voice as Lenore Zann from the ‘90s X-Men cartoon. So when I heard she was getting her own miniseries about that time she spent in the Savage Land with Magneto? I about fell over in my boots. Written by Tim Seeley (you might know him from Hack/Slash and Nightwing) with art by Zulema Scotto Lavina and colors by Rachelle Rosenberg, this book is as gorgeous as it is juicy.
I covered the first issue when it came out, but sugah, so much happens over the four following issues that we just had to circle back. It’s a lot of action, dinosaurs, and punching. The only thing there wasn’t a lot of is Rogue wearing clothes. We also get fun guest stars like Ka-Zar and Shanna (jungle royalty), and a real blast from mutant past: Zaladane (Polaris’ half-sister, y’all) and she is serving villain energy with extra sparkle and sass. Psychic powers, queen vibes, questionable family ties? Check, check, and double check.

The series also dives into Rogue’s powers in a deeper, more emotional way, how touching someone means carrying more than just their powers. Seeley really gets that weight she carries. And the art? Whew. Zulema’s linework brings so much movement and expression to every page, and Rachelle Rosenberg’s colors make the Savage Land feel alive, dangerous, and beautiful. I bought way too many variant covers and I regret none of it.
Honestly, Rogue: The Savage Land has everything you could want in a mutant comic: heart, action, tension, and a heroine who’s still learning to live with all the pieces she’s absorbed. It’s Rogue at her most raw and real, and I loved every minute of it.

The trade paperback comes out in September, but you should definitely hunt down those issues now. Some of those covers are so gorgeous, they’ll stop you mid-flight like Rogue hitting a brick wall, sugah.
