From Witches to Dream Killers, ‘Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac’ has it all

Written by:

When I first picked up Where Monsters Lie back in 2021, I was hooked right away. It had everything: horror, blood, and a unique sense of humor that just worked. So when Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac was announced, I was beyond excited.

Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Writer: Kyle Starks
Interior & Cover Artist: Piotr Kowalski
Colorist: Vladimir Popov
Letterer: Josh Reed
Release dates: October 2024 – February 2025

The series is created by Kyle Starks (you might know his work from Dead of Winter and Mars Attacks), and illustrated by Piotr Kowalski, who’s also working on Let This One Be the Devil. If you’re familiar with Starks’ work, you know he has a great way of blending humor with dark themes, and Kowalski’s art is just perfect for the eerie vibe of this story.

But before we go any further, let me give you a heads up: if you haven’t read the first Where Monsters Lie series, stop right here. There will be spoilers, and you really don’t want to ruin the surprise.

Now, Cull-De-Sac picks up right where the madness left off, and things only get crazier. A new community is introduced with a fresh set of insane killers, and Connor, our hero, finds himself in the clutches of the group’s leader. The tension, the suspense, it’s all there, and it keeps you turning pages to see what happens next.

What I really love about this series is that, while it’s packed with slasher-style horror, there are some wild supernatural elements thrown in for good measure. There are witches, a guy who wears a hat and kills you in your dreams (sounds familiar…), and the list goes on. But what makes it stand out is how it all comes together. The supernatural craziness doesn’t overshadow the true horror: the human monsters at the heart of it all. It’s a perfect mix of the grotesque and the bizarre, and it works.

So, if you’re a fan of horror, gore, and characters you won’t soon forget (and if you’ve read our blog, I’m guessing you are), then Where Monsters Lie: Cull-De-Sac is a must-read. It’s thrilling, unpredictable, and definitely worth your time if you’re looking for something a little offbeat in the world of horror comics. Trust me, you won’t regret it. The paperback is out June 17th!
