The first issue of Let This One Be a Devil is finally here, and we couldn’t wait to dive in.

Let This One Be a Devil #1
Main cover: Gavin Fullerton
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Writers: James Tynion IV & Steve Foxe
Artist: Piotr Kowalski
Letterer: Brad Simpson
Release date: February 19, 2025

This series comes from an incredible creative team: James Tynion IV, Steve Foxe, and Piotr Kowalski. We were so excited about it that we even made a post when it was announced. Now that the first issue is out, it’s safe to say the hype was completely justified.

The story follows Henry Naughton, who returns to his family farm in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. One night, he spots something lurking in the woods, something that shouldn’t exist. As he digs deeper, he uncovers the dark legend of Mother Leeds, who gave birth to the infamous Jersey Devil in 1735. The past and present start to intertwine, and whatever is out there might not be just a story after all…

This issue did not disappoint. Henry’s first encounter with the mysterious creature was eerie and set the tone perfectly. I mean, the art and the colors are on point and fit perfectly the story and atmosphere. Look at that!

Art: Piotr Kowalski

Then we get a glimpse of the past, where a woman gives birth to her 13th child… with an evil twist. The writing, the art, the pacing, everything just hit the spot. This is a series that I will fully look forward to reading every month, and I have to mention the glossy, high-quality cover from Dark Horse: it looks and feels amazing, and that’s always a plus.

Issue #2 drops on April 2, and I’m already counting down the days, as you should also do.
