‘Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees’ Returns in ‘Rite of Spring’

A sequel to Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees is coming this July, and we’ve been counting the days ever since the announcement.

Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring #1
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Writer, Artist, Colorist: Patrick Horvath
Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
Release date: July 9, 2025

We absolutely loved the first run when it came out from late 2023 to spring 2024. It was six issues of something totally different, mixing sweet, storybook visuals with one of the most unsettling serial killer narratives we’ve seen in a comic. Reviews praised how effectively it balanced cute and creepy, and that contrast is exactly what made it stand out to us too. It wasn’t on our radar at all when it came out – but we fixed that real quick when we saw how it was received!

The new story brings back Samantha, the seemingly perfect small-town bear who turned out to be hiding a bloody secret. But now it’s been ten years, and a lot has changed. In the age of the internet and rising suspicion, the past isn’t so easy to bury. We’re also finally going to learn more about how Samantha’s darkness began, as the series looks back at what happened after her very first kill.

It’s another six-issue limited series, which feels like the perfect format for this kind of story. Patrick Horvath knows how to build slow, unsettling tension without dragging anything out. We’re really excited to see how he continues to grow this deceptively charming world.

If you read the first series, you know how good this is going to be. And if you didn’t, now’s the perfect time to catch up, the trade paperback and the hardcover were out last year, and a luxury storybook edition will be out in June!
