The Seasons is a new series written by Rick Remender (Black Science, and more recently The Sacrificers that I also have been enjoying a lot) and illustrated by Paul Azaceta (Outcast). Both did an amazing job in this first issue as story and art fit perfectly together from the start.

The story follows Spring, the youngest of the Seasons Sisters, whose parents, the famed Seasons Detectives, vanished ten years ago. The sisters have formed an inseparable bond over the years, but a new danger threatens to tear them apart. After a playful opening with Spring chasing down a letter from her sister Autumn, the mood takes a darker turn, hinting at ominous events that will unfold in future issues…

This was such an enjoyable issue. It’s a double-sized issue but I still wanted more and more! I loved how the tone shifted throughout the issue. We started with a mysterious prologue about a city that vanished overnight, before meeting Spring in a quite funny chase scene for most of the issue. And then, we went back to something dark and honestly quite scary. Something bad is going to happen, and it’s going to happen very soon. What was also amazing is how the art and colors matched each of the different tones. By the end, I was fully hooked and ready for more!

With issue #2 out on February 26, now is the perfect time to dive into this promising series and get caught up before the story takes an even darker and more suspenseful turn, which I can’t wait for!
