Abattoir 6 instantly grabbed us thanks to that deeply unsettling cover.

The series is written by Mina Elwell and A.C. Medina, with art by Anna Wieszczyk. We are not familiar with Mina Elwell’s work yet, but we’ve recently been reading Dead Head by A.C. Medina and we’ve had a really good time with that slasher energy, so seeing his name attached here already makes us curious. Anna Wieszczyk is also new to us, which honestly makes this feel like an exciting discovery moment.
Before we even read the synopsis, the cover alone creeped us out. That is already a victory. It sets the tone perfectly and suggests something violent and (hopefully) a little gross. Once we got into the premise, things only got darker.
The story takes place nearly a century after a plague devastated humanity, leaving vampires at the top of the food chain but facing a severe shortage of blood. The remaining humans are raised inside controlled facilities called abattoirs, protected from the outside world only so they can be used as a sustainable food source. When an ancient and seemingly unstable human survivor is captured and brought into Abattoir 6, the largest of these facilities, a group of captive humans begin to imagine escape.
A vampire ruled world where humans are literally farmed is already disturbing enough, but the idea of rebellion inside that system makes the universe even more interesting. It sounds very messy, which is exactly what we hope it will lean into. If it goes as far as it can with the concept, this could be one of those horror series that fully commits to being uncomfortable.
Between the creepy first impression, the dark world building, and the promise of chaos inside Abattoir 6, we are absolutely here for whatever this series is about to unleash!
