Red Roots immediately caught our attention, especially because it marks a new ongoing series from a big name of the industry.

Red Roots #1
Publisher: Image Comics
Writer & Artist: Lorenzo De Felici
Release date: April 22, 2026
Red Roots is written and illustrated by Lorenzo de Felici and published by Image Comics. While we have not read much of his previous work yet, his name has been everywhere lately and this feels like the perfect moment to finally jump in. An ongoing indie comic from a creator stepping fully into both writing and art is always something we look forward to.
The official premise is strikingly simple. The lives of a professional killer and a high school teacher become bound together by a mysterious and terrifying force. That is basically all we get, but honestly that one sentence was enough to make us curious. There is something intriguing about not knowing what to expect, especially when the setup hints at violence, fate, and something larger connecting two very different lives.
The preview pages that were revealed also look promising and give off a strong visual identity. The art already feels confident and atmospheric, which makes the mystery even more compelling. And we love the main cover – putting a cat on a cover is always a win for us.
Red Roots launches on April 22, and between the minimal but effective synopsis, the promise of an ongoing indie story, and the strong early visuals, this is one we are genuinely curious to see unfold month after month.
