Any new Captain Marvel series immediately has our attention and Dark Past is no exception.

Captain Marvel: Dark Past #1
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Writer: Paul Jenkins
Artist: Lucas Werneck
Release date: April 1, 2026

Captain Marvel is simply one of our favorite Marvel characters and we will always show up for Carol Danvers. Kelly Thompson’s run remains one of our favorite comic series ever, and while it is a little frustrating that there has not been a truly impactful ongoing since, we are more than happy to dive into a focused limited series like this one.

Captain Marvel: Dark Past is a five issue mini series written by Paul Jenkins with art by Lucas Werneck and is set to release in April. The story sends Carol back into her own history as Ms. Marvel after a buried family secret comes to light. As memories she once lost begin to surface, Carol is forced to confront parts of her past that could threaten everything she has built as Captain Marvel.

What really excites us is the angle of revisiting Carol’s earlier identity. Exploring her time as Ms. Marvel always adds emotional weight and depth, especially when tied to memory, identity, and legacy. Paul Jenkins is a massive name in comics, and we are genuinely curious to see how he approaches Carol’s voice and inner conflict. Lucas Werneck on art already makes this a must buy for us. His work is simply gorgeous and perfect for a character like Carol who lives somewhere between raw emotion and cosmic scale.

Even as a limited series, Captain Marvel: Dark Past feels like a meaningful addition to her story, and we will gladly take it while waiting for the next big ongoing she deserves.
