A new multiverse adventure from Peach Momoko is on the way and we could not be happier about it! Marvel is bringing Sai back in a big way with Sai: Dimensional Rivals, a five-issue limited series written and illustrated by Momoko alongside a lineup of celebrated artists, arriving this January.

So, What’s the Story?
Sai is Momoko’s reimagined version of Psylocke, a yokai-fighting telepath from an alternate version of feudal Japan. She first appeared in Demon Days: X-Men #1 and has since become popular enough to appear in the Marvel Rivals video game. Now she gets her own series, and this time she’s leaving her world behind.
In Dimensional Rivals, Sai travels across the multiverse on a quest to uncover a mysterious set of Infinity Stones. Along the way she meets new interpretations of her world, her purpose, and her abilities, and each issue lets a different artist show Sai through their own unique vision. It sounds like a beautiful collaborative project that celebrates art, individuality, and storytelling in a way that only comics can.
Who’s Making Sai: Dimensional Rivals?
Peach Momoko writes and draws the series, with Stan Sakai co-writing and drawing the first issue. Emi Fujii colors alongside Momoko, and Joe Sabino letters.
Momoko is the artist behind the Momoko-verse, Marvel’s line of comics that reimagines the Marvel Universe through the lens of Japanese folktales, and she wrote and drew Ultimate X-Men. She signed an exclusive deal with Marvel in late 2020 as part of its Stormbreakers lineup of rising artists, and her watercolor-and-ink look has been instantly recognizable ever since.
Sakai is the creator of Usagi Yojimbo, the long-running samurai epic that, like Sai’s world, draws on feudal Japan, which makes him a natural fit to open the series. The roster of guest artists includes Esad Ribić, Natacha Bustos (co-creator of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur), Mike del Mundo, Sara Pichelli (co-creator of Miles Morales), Iban Coello, Jim Mahfood, and more. It’s a lineup of creators Momoko has met and worked alongside over her career.
Why We’re Watching This One
This announcement is especially exciting for us because our love for Momoko’s work is personal. When we lived in Japan we had the chance to meet Peach Momoko several times, and she was always kind, humble, and incredibly inspiring in person. Demon Days was actually among our very first comic buys when we started getting into the hobby at our then-local comic shop in Akihabara, Tokyo. Her blend of Marvel lore and Japanese folklore completely hooked us, and Sai stood out as one of the most compelling reinterpretations of an iconic character.
Momoko’s artwork has become instantly recognizable in the industry. From her watercolor and ink textures to her dreamlike visual approach, she has consistently brought fresh ideas and a unique visual voice to Marvel. We obviously love collecting alllll the covers she’s making, and seeing her expand the Momoko-verse with Sai feels like the perfect next step. We can’t wait to see how the character continues to evolve under multiple creative perspectives.
Who Should Add This to Their Pull List?
Anyone who loved Demon Days or Ultimate X-Men has an obvious reason to be here, and so do fans of Psylocke and readers who love art-driven comics. It’s also a great pick for Marvel Rivals players curious about Sai’s comic origins, and for anyone who loves seeing a multiverse story told through a lineup of artists.
