That’s the question haunting us after reading the first look at Black Diamond, a new four-issue folk horror series arriving September 3, 2025. The setup is simple but sinister: during what should have been a peaceful family ski trip, Owen and Victoria Welch’s son is abducted. But the real nightmare begins when they learn a cult is behind it… and the only way to get their child back is to deliver someone else’s.

We’re always drawn to horror that mixes psychological dread with cold, remote landscapes, and Black Diamond seems ready to deliver both. Cults, difficult choices, and a haunting setting are the kind of ingredients we can’t resist. We’re especially intrigued to see how far these parents will go (and what they’ll become) in their descent into survival.

The creative team is new to us, which makes this even more exciting. Writer Brendan Columbus and artist Danilo Beyruth (whose preview pages already look incredible) might just surprise us with one of the creepiest series of the year.
