Written by Cullen Bunn with art by Joe Bocardo, The Hexiles is their second series together. They first teamed up for Nightwalkers, a vampire horror series that’s absolutely worth checking out. But The Hexiles? This one goes straight to hell. Literally.
The story starts when six strangers show up at their father’s funeral that none of them knew. Soon, they find out their charming late dad sold all of their souls to demons before he died. So now, they’re stuck paying off his infernal debt. Family issues, but make it demonic.
To make things even more fun, the deal he made didn’t just sell their souls, it changed them. Each one of them has horrifying, supernatural powers tied to the hellish contract their father made. These aren’t cool superhero powers either, they’re twisted and dangerous. And the worst part? They didn’t ask for any of it. Their dad signed the deal, and now they’re on the hook.

What I loved is how quickly the group pulls together. At first, it’s chaos, no one knows what’s going on, no one trusts each other, but soon enough, they decide they’re going to fight for their souls. Turns out, nothing brings people together like hatred for their deadbeat dad. The sibling dynamics are messy, tense, and weirdly satisfying. The horror just keeps escalating. Across six issues, Cullen Bunn throws in character twists, gruesome action, and more than a few “wait, what?” moments.
I’ve gotta give a shoutout to Joe Bocardo’s art, too. The demons in this book are nightmare material. His creature designs are terrifying, detailed, and full of personality. The whole comic has this surreal, nightmarish tone that hits just right for a horror story like this.

If you’re into supernatural horror with a side of family drama and demonic contracts, The Hexiles delivers in every way. The trade paperback just dropped earlier this month. Grab it, light a candle, and pray your parents didn’t make any shady deals with demons.
