May is delivering big time. Between wild horror hooks, cosmic chaos, and long-awaited character returns, this month’s lineup of new comic series had us fighting to narrow it down to just twelve. From dark Gwenpool to monsters in mid-century America, these are the books we’re most hyped to grab off the shelves.

Blood & Thunder – Image Comics
The story: In a future Earth where aliens live among us, bounty hunter Blood Bledsoe and her snarky talking gun Thunder are on the trail of the galaxy’s most dangerous escapee.
Why we’re intrigued: A gritty sci-fi bounty hunt written by Robert Kirkman? Sign us up.
Dark Regards – Oni Press
The story: Failed metalhead turned comedian Dave Hill accidentally sparks a global black metal panic with his fake band Witch Taint. Now Norway’s real killers are headed his way..
Why we’re intrigued: The satire, the chaos, the actual danger behind the ridiculousness, this one sounds like a lot of fun.
Exquisite Corpses – Image Comics
The story: Every five years, twelve killers are dropped into a random American town for a deadly game. This year, it’s Oak Valley’s turn to survive Halloween.
Why we’re intrigued: A wild concept with James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh behind it. We’ve been pumped since we posted about its announcement, and we know it’s going to be BIG.

Free Planet – Image Comics
The story: The first free planet in human history must protect its energy source while figuring out what freedom really means, all under the threat of alien empires.
Why we’re intrigued: Original, thoughtful sci-fi with big ideas and a ton of potential.
Gwenpool – Marvel Comics
The story: Gwenpool’s back and everything’s different. It’s darker, grittier, and she’s serving up violent justice with a new mystery tying her to Spider-Man.
Why we’re intrigued: We love Gwenpool. We’re excited (and, let’s be honest, a little scared) to see what’s next for the character.
Los Monstruos – Dark Horse Comics
The story: In a monster-filled city straight out of classic horror films, werewolf P.I. Perry Cutter is on a missing vampiress case that pulls him into a supernatural turf war.
Why we’re intrigued: Noir vibes, mystery and classic monsters?! Yes, please!

Sleep – Image Comics
The story: Every time Jonathan falls asleep, a killer stalks his town. When he wakes up covered in blood, he realizes the nightmare might be him.
Why we’re intrigued: A chilling, clever horror concept we can’t wait to dig into.
Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse – Marvel Comics
The story: Spider heroes and symbiotes clash in a multiverse war to protect or consume the Web-Heart. New characters, new threats, and high stakes collide.
Why we’re intrigued: These events are always fun and the new characters are worth the hype!
Supergirl – DC Comics
The story: Kara returns to her hometown to start over, only to find someone else already playing hero in her name.
Why we’re intrigued: We love this character and can’t wait to see her carve out her own space again.

Superman Unlimited – DC Comics
The story: A mysterious green threat hides inside a city-sized asteroid on a collision course with Earth. Superman has to act fast, but it might cost him everything.
Why we’re intrigued: Dan Slott writing Superman? This series might make us love the character more than ever.
Vanishing Point – Mad Cave Studios
The story: A mining ship captain makes a terrifying discovery in deep space. That’s just one tale in this new sci-fi horror anthology from Mark Russell and friends.
Why we’re intrigued: Short stories, big ideas, and that perfect blend of dread and wonder.
The Vision & The Scarlet Witch – Marvel Comics
The story: Doors promising miracles lure people in. When Vision is nearly destroyed investigating them, Wanda takes drastic steps to save him… with unexpected consequences.
Why we’re intrigued: Two characters we love, back together in a powerful, emotional new series. We’ve been counting the days for that one since we posted about the series announcement!
Those are our must-reads for new comics series out in May 2025! Did we miss one you’re excited for? Let us know!
