‘X-Men: Hellfire Vigil’: A Night to Reflect and a Future to Build

The Hellfire Gala returns this summer… sort of. But this time, it’s not about red carpets and Krakoan diplomacy. It’s about remembrance.

X-Men: Hellfire Vigil #1
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Artist: Luciano Vecchio
Release date: July 2, 2025

X-Men: Hellfire Vigil #1 arrives July 2, and it’s bringing together an incredible creative team: Jed MacKay, Gail Simone, Stephanie Phillips, Luciano Vecchio, Javier Garrón, Sara Pichelli, and more, for a one-shot that looks back on the dream of Krakoa. And yes, it hurts a little.

The Gala might not be the glittering spectacle it once was, but this issue promises the emotion, drama, and superhero elegance we’ve always loved from these tie-ins and one-shots. Mutants gather once more, not in defiance but in solidarity, to mourn the fall of a nation and reflect on what it meant to them, and to us.

We’re excited because we used to love these Hellfire Gala stories, even when they went completely off the rails (last year’s was wild and traumatic). But more than that, we miss Krakoa. Some of the new era books are hitting, others less so, and honestly, the tight connection between titles feels like it’s missing now. So having this one issue where the mutants can gather, reflect, and maybe even start to move forward? That feels like something we really needed.

Also? That cover by Luciano Vecchio is stunning. And with so many fan-favorite creators involved, it looks like Marvel’s treating this as a bridge to what’s next… and we’re so excited to find out what’s coming!
