Greg Pak and Diego Galindo teamed up to deliver a gripping urban fantasy adventure. We’ve enjoyed Greg Pak’s work before, especially his Storm series from 2014-2015 and X-Men: Magneto Testament. As for Diego Galindo, his art in several Stranger Things and Power Rangers series was impressive, and he definitely brought that same level of quality here.

The story is set in a city where every lie or wrongdoing causes people to transform into monsters. The main character, who just passed an exam to become a clerk that judges and exiles wrongdoers, finds himself caught in a grim situation when he chooses to save a friend from expulsion. As a result, something strange starts growing on his chest, and he quickly learns that there’s more to the city’s rules than meets the eye… and that everything is not as fair as it seems.

I loved the whole concept. It’s such a smart and unique take on morality and justice, and the way it’s visually represented is just fantastic. The character development was really well done, and the story kept me hooked from start to finish. I also loved how the series tackled the idea of privilege and how the wealthy can cheat their way out of consequences while others suffer. The ending felt incredibly satisfying and made perfect sense, which isn’t always the case with stories like this. If you were curious about this, you should definitely give it a try!
Lawful is available as a collected edition if you missed the issues, Volume 1 is already out since February, and Volume 2 will drop in September 2025.
