We were excited about Dark Pyramid from the start and even included it in “Our Top 12 Picks for Comic Series Debuting in March 2025” article. So, of course, we had to grab it as soon as it dropped.
Writer Paul Tobin and artist P. J. Holden have teamed up to bring us this chilling adventure. We’ve enjoyed Paul Tobin’s work before, especially Bunny Mask and his Spider-Girl series from 2010-2011. As for P. J. Holden, we weren’t too familiar with his work, but he definitely didn’t disappoint here.
The story follows famous live streamer Hooky Hidalgo, who vanishes during a live climb of Mt. Denali in Alaska. His disappearance is witnessed by his followers, who notice his stream cutting off suddenly. Desperate for answers, his girlfriend Becca arrives at the mountain to retrace his steps, also broadcasting her journey. What she finds is more than she could have ever expected, especially when she’s being woken up in the middle of the night in the cabin she found…
OK, I don’t want to reveal too much of it yet but, I really enjoyed the mix of adventure, mystery, and horror in this one. The opening with Hooky’s live stream cutting off was a great hook, and I loved the idea of Becca continuing her search while live streaming herself. The art was also great, perfectly capturing the landscape and building suspense with each page. It’s definitely a page-turner, and I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here. It’s been a long time I haven’t enjoyed a first issue so much, so I’m really excited about it!
Dark Pyramid #1 is out now, and you have some time to read it before issue 2 drops on April 30! You will definitely not regret it.
