Blood Train is written by Adam Glass, known for his work on Suicide Squad, Teen Titans or The Normals, which was a series published by Aftershock that I really enjoyed. The art by Bernard Chang (who has previously worked on Teen Titans and Monkey Prince that was a lot of fun) is top-notch, perfectly capturing the chaotic atmosphere of this train ride. This is part of the newly launched Ninth Circle line of comics that will deliver a lot of horror into the comics world.

A group of friends traveling home on the Siberian Express are thrown into chaos when one of them, Amy, is infected with a deadly bioweapon. As she begins to transform into a monstrous killer, the friends must make an impossible choice: kill her to save everyone else or risk the bioweapon spreading and triggering global disaster. Meanwhile, soldiers searching for “Blood Zero” (the infected patient zero) are closing in, making the clock tick even faster.

I love horror comics, but one-shot stories can be a hit or miss. Blood Train definitely falls on the “hit” side for me. It’s fast-paced and relentless, throwing you into the chaos right from the start. The tension builds quickly, and while it doesn’t have the luxury of long character development, the core group of friends is well-established enough that you feel invested in their survival. The artwork is a standout (and the colors!), especially in the transformation scenes. Her first time transforming on a full page is excellent, and then she keeps becoming more and more monstrous. Vivid, gruesome, and perfect for the horror genre, especially one panel that is amazing, where half a dozen passengers are shown dead and dismembered.

Blood Train is a fun, intense ride that makes the most of its limited page count. If you’re looking for an enjoyable horror story, Blood Train nails it. The magazine size also makes it a very cool piece to add to your collection!
