Commuting to Hell: Kill Train #1 Hits the Tracks

We all know that transit in big cities is a nightmare. But when it comes to commuting in the Kill Train, riding is more like a one-way ticket to… well, let’s find out!

Earlier this week, we shared our excitement about reading Kill Train. We dove in, and we were absolutely right! I wasn’t familiar with Olivia Cuartero-Briggs before, but her writing on this issue? Sensational. I’m definitely going to dig deeper into her work after this. And let’s not forget the art, Martina Niosi and Simone D’Angelo took Kill Train to a whole new level. The visuals elevate the entire bloody experience!

Why Would They Kill Randomly?

What if your ride home could be your last? In a future New York ravaged by overpopulation, a gruesome program called Kill Train has been implemented to control the city’s exploding population. A subway train is selected at random, and every single passenger on board is killed by the end of the line. Yes, you read that right. Randomly.

Enter Vanessa, a single mom caught in the middle of a breakdown. With everything falling apart around her, she learns that she’s been picked for the Kill Train program. But instead of surrendering to the chaos, Vanessa decides she’s not going down without a fight.

Not All Blood and Carnage

As a horror fan, I do love my fair share of gore for the sake of gore. And Kill Train delivers that right from the first page. If you picked up this issue without looking at the cover, you’d guess the title is Killer Train by page three.

But here’s the thing: as much as I enjoy bloody soaking pages, I’m also a sucker for a relatable protagonist. And that’s where Olivia Cuartero-Briggs really shines. Vanessa is a mess. She’s dealing with a crumbling job, financial struggles, and the feeling that everyone else has it together but her. The day isn’t bad enough, she lost her taxi pass and to go home… Yes, she needs to take the subway. But it’s all good. A subway was randomly exterminated the night before. Surely, they wouldn’t do it two days in a row…

…OR WOULD THEY?

I can’t say much more without spoiling the details, but trust me, there’s a twist that’ll send this “let’s just kill everyone aboard” story into a whole new dimension. Kill Train is more than just a slasher; it’s an emotional ride with stakes that you won’t see coming. I’m obsessed.

If you’re into well-developed stories that go beyond the violence (though, don’t get me wrong, I love a good massacre), then this issue is definitely for you. Trust me you’ll be obsessed too. After reading, hit us up in the comments or shout at us on social media. We wanna hear your thoughts!
